Why Blairsville Is Made For A Weekend
Blairsville sits in the heart of the North Georgia mountains, close to the Chattahoochee National Forest, the Appalachian Trail and Brasstown Bald, the highest point in Georgia. It is small enough to feel relaxed and close enough to everything that you can fill two days without spending them in the car.
That is exactly why we recommend making Highland Falls Cabins your home base. Our cabins sit at 105 Highland Forge Ln in Blairsville, with kitchens, grills and porches built for slow mornings. Downtown Blue Ridge is about 30 minutes away, and most of the stops below are well within an hour.
Friday Evening: Settle In
Check in and unwind. Arrive, unpack and claim your spot on the porch. If you are bringing a dog, be sure you booked one of our pet-friendly cabins (more on that below). Fire up the grill, pour something local, and let the mountain air do its work. Some guests tell us they never go further than the back porch on the first night, and that is a perfectly good plan.
Dinner In Town
If you would rather not cook, historic downtown Blairsville has excellent restaurants within a short drive. Our Adventures page lists the places we send our own guests.
Vincent’s Coppertop
Dinner on the square in historic downtown Blairsville.
Michaelee’s Italian Life Caffe
Another downtown Blairsville stop on the square that we send our own guests to.
Hole in the Wall
One of the places we recommend for breakfast. See our Adventures page for the full list.
Saturday: Waterfalls, Views And Wine
Morning: Helton Creek Falls. Start with one of the easiest big payoffs in the area. The Helton Creek Falls Trail is an easy 0.2-mile walk to two waterfalls: a lower falls that drops over a 30-foot ledge and an upper falls that drops at least 60 feet, according to the Blairsville-Union County Chamber. The path has abrupt changes in grade and some stairs, so wear good shoes and stay on the trail and observation deck. Parking is a small pullout off Helton Creek Road, so arrive early.
Late morning: Vogel State Park. Just up the road is Vogel State Park, one of Georgia’s oldest state parks, at the base of Blood Mountain. Vogel offers more than 18 miles of trails, picnic shelters, mini-golf and a CCC Museum.
Local tip
Heads-up: as of October 2026, Georgia State Parks reports that Lake Trahlyta is drained for dam repairs, and the Lake Trahlyta Loop Trail and Trahlyta Falls are closed. Cabins, campsites and other park facilities remain open. Check gastateparks.org/Vogel before you go.
Afternoon Views, Evening Wine
Some guests tell us they never go further than the back porch on the first night, and that is a perfectly good plan.
